Jan Vermouzek

Jan Vermouzek

Jan Vermouzek was born in 1979 in Brno, where he still lives. He graduated from Business College and is currently studying photography at the Institute of Creative Photography at Silesian University in Opava.

When he’s not taking photographs, Jan is working as a computer network administrator and since 2011 has also worked with Wannieck Gallery in Brno, one of the largest contemporary art galleries in the Czech Republic. In the same year he became one of the curators for the gallery Jiří Putna. Photography has been a part of his life since childhood, when he was introduced to it by his family of photographers. His first camera was a Flexaret.

Jan’s work is primarily devoted to documentary photography, especially of his hometown. But he also enjoys shooting in the studio, where he has complete control over the photography workflow.

In 2011 he was awarded second prize in Czech Press Photo category of daily life, jointly with Martin Wagner. He has collaborated on several publications, such as the Catalog of the nonfigurative sculpture studio (FFA, 2009), Catalog Patchwork by Pavla Křížová (2009) and the Catalog of the Lost Workday (2000). In 2008, he ranked among the top 50 in international competition 'Europe without Barriers.’
